Finding My Voice
I came from Colombia at fourteen,
with a heart full of dreams
and a mouth that could not yet speak them.
English felt heavy on my mind,
and silence followed me everywhere.
with a heart full of dreams
and a mouth that could not yet speak them.
English felt heavy on my mind,
and silence followed me everywhere.
I felt lost at first,
watching others talk while I listened.
But basketball gave me a place to stand, a bounce, a pass, a moment where I belonged.
Video games became late-night companions,
where teamwork spoke louder than words.
watching others talk while I listened.
But basketball gave me a place to stand, a bounce, a pass, a moment where I belonged.
Video games became late-night companions,
where teamwork spoke louder than words.
Slowly, but surely, I found my voice.
Through effort and patience,
I pushed past fear and doubt.
I learned that my fears and limits were never real,
only waiting for me to challenge them.
Through effort and patience,
I pushed past fear and doubt.
I learned that my fears and limits were never real,
only waiting for me to challenge them.
I am still growing,
but I am no longer invisible.
I am proof that determination
can turn silence into strength.
but I am no longer invisible.
I am proof that determination
can turn silence into strength.
