Finding out

Blond hair, sunshine rays

Blue eyes, ocean waves

Tears flow, hands hold

Hugs and kisses between them both

It’s not good news

But at least they know the truth

And can plan for the future

Huntington’s

Someday his hands will shake

And his words will slur

Like an alcoholic on his tenth scotch

But she will be by his side

Tipping the bowl of soup to his mouth

So he can eat without too much mess

Someday he’ll be bedridden and

She will still lay by his side

I was the one to give them the news

45 glutamine repeats

I repeated the news

He will be affected by this disease

For some it is better to know

And others would rather not

But I will be there for them all

I will explain and listen

I am a Genetic Counselor
