Finding Solace

There are just some things that we can’t escape Realms in which we can’t forever dwell We enter these planes to run from problems Only to return to our personal hell We all have our plans of escape We enter portals rather than face the fall Some attempt to drown away their sorrows But the thoughts remain unwashed by alcohol We all have our empty spaces We seek a cement for the fill Some attempt to alter their emotions But feel just as empty with the pill We all have that inner voice It reiterates the obstacles we follow along Some attempt to ease the journey with music But there are times when there is no song We all have that urge of aggression We want to physically attack the forces that condemn Some wear their bodies out in the attempt Only to find that the burden is beyond the gym There are just some things that must be faced Inevitable encounters that befall us We may temporarily flee into our portals But in facing reality there is no solace.

This is an excellent poem. The writers biggest strength is the way he uses juxtaposition of our attempts to change our lives vs the inevitiabiliry that our insecurities cannot be permanently changed by such simple things as listening to music or working out our physical body.

Simply put, this poem discusses the various ways people try to cope with their obstacles or issues in life. However, attempting to cope with our issues works temporarily at best. In time, we will have to embrace reality and face the problems that come our way. This poem is not meant to be pessimistic. It merely states a fact of life.
