Finite
Stretch your arm
Out
Now farther
And farther still
Still more
Go on
Just a bit more
There
That is the limit of your reach
Now take your smile
And set out on a cloudy day
Take with you just the clothes on your back
Make sure you’ll be able to find a way
Home in the end
Let’s take a walk while outside it’s still light
And everywhere we go, to each person in sight
Smile and greet with a little ‘hello’
‘Good day’
‘How are you?’
It’ll be quick
We’ll grab a bite to eat
Cross the street
Walk back the same way but from an opposite side
With the same smiles and tipping of hats
With simple, quiet, matter of fact
Expressions that are kind
In one day there are only twenty four hours
In each hour a limited number of minutes
In each minute the same number of seconds
Each second passes us just like that
Often without our realization of time
Passing us by
Going fast
In that day
Are you stretching your arms
As you lean back from a chair
Where all day you’ve sat?
Or are you stretching a smile
Genuine, ‘cross your face
As you take in a bit of that fresh winter air
On a snowy, but warming day?
