fire

i had the idea in my mind
that you would kiss me on my birthday
and if i made the right sound, the right move
you’d push me down and touch me softly

but that was a time far gone by now
and the fire you awoke in me is
steady on despite the trail of broken
promises you left behind for me

though time has passed i still feel fire
in every inch of myself, itching
to be set free by someone willing to
feel my heat and burn along with me
