Fire

Blistering rosy tongues brush against the seemingly fragile birch. Infant teal creeps out from under the cracked calloused wood, only to be taunted by tangerine sisters. Vehement coals scorch the bellies of, now apathetic, logs that have fallen. As anger rises in the souls of the coals, the sisters frolic up the still enduring timber. They reach the top, and kick off fragments of elation into the inky canvas. Each bit bursting, and then sailing down past the trinkets of the Gods. Past the curtains between me and the rest of the world. Finally, quenching itself in the grime beneath my feet. Leaving eyes to trail aimlessly back to the hypnotizing tongues, licking away at my night’s entertainment.
