Fire and Melancholy

Do not trust me

for I am made up of

dust and ash,

with hungry lips,

ruled by an anxious heart

and a sick brain.

I will lure you in and make you feel-

my siren's call, giving away

pieces of myself-

just to leave you shipwrecked on rocky shores

if you get too close.

I see myself only in funhouse mirrors,

a warped perception formed by

the scars of the past and

a desperate longing to feel anything at all.

Trust not the person you see,

they are a carefully constructed illusion

built to suit your exact needs.

Too scared to make waves

by being my own person,

instead becoming a self destructive hurricane

further down the line when I get too comfortable

and reveal my true self-

the true face of shame, uncertainty, instability

finally revealed- an unbecoming sight

to those most unfortunate

to happen upon it.
