Fire Ant

I watch an ant sprint across the ground

with light steps and dark splotch

carrying white speck on hard rock

It does not see me on the other side

of colored glass, playing god with a match,

lit. It reaches and I pounce

Thin smoke rolls off of small antennae

I call it a fire ant
