A Fire That Burns

A Fire That Burns

We are all born with an ember,

A small bit of fire

Our own piece of life to grow and foster

Yet fire needs air to burn bright

It needs space and it needs time

With every beat of a heart

Every lung filled with life

It makes us stand apart

This is what makes us different

The fire that burns, a fire of hope

To push us through when our energy is spent

A fire to inspire and help us cope

This is the poor man's currency

Meant to level the field of play

It brings about a sense of urgency

To make it through the next day

It's the curiosity in a child's eyes

The strength in a runner's stride

Hope is a flame that burns

An inferno that inspires
