Fire Hydrants

You pass right by us on your daily commute

Going about your life as we remain stagnant.

Our network is spread far and wide

We encompass the city as silent guardians.

Always at our post.

Always ready for the next disaster.

Like the dutiful soldiers we are.

We have but one purpose,

To save as many as we can.

We come in all shapes

But rarely do we change size.

For what we withhold

Cannot be controlled by just anything.

Imagine a power capable have stopping destruction itself.

The amount of pressure we feel every single day.

A valve ready to burst at any second.

Held back only by our compact suit of armor

And our duty to act only when called upon.

We’d prefer you continue to pass us by.

We are not here for recognition

While our bright colors may say otherwise.

Only seek us out when in absolute need of what we can unleash.

For the less you take note of us

The safer you should be.
