The Fire That Went Cold
We came quite the distance holding fast to
a timeless love that "would always last",
an unquenchable flame.
The fire burned bright despite
every trying night, warming our hearts, illuminating
the way for us to go, and we had no reason to worry.
Then, somewhere along the way, our hearts grew cold, each chilling the other into
a wintry nowhere, reducing the blazing flames to embers, freezing us in
place as we wondered why we even bothered to come this far.
We had no reason to worry.
But now I feel the burning need to hurry,
and take a fan to the flames, the "timeless" love now
running out of time, the unquenchable flame no longer
the same, and rekindle the fire that once guided us,
and provided us with amorous light in the darkest of night,
so that we may find a way out of this frozen wasteland,
with the brightest chance, and find our way back to warm romance.
