Firefly

You’re too cold to be real

The earth didn’t treat you like her child

No she didn’t want you

So now you hold me too close

You grasp at my flames

But I’ve been sleeping on the ocean floor

Far from the land I crave

Where they search for me in the endless blue

I could say beautiful things

But the ashes would still fall on your tears

The lava is flowing fast for you now

But this is not my home

And it’s not warm here with you

I’ve been dreaming of that other land

Where they wait for me

Searching for my orange-fire eyes

Notice me drawing away

You never reached for my heart until now

But even as I float away

You still clutch at the smoke

You can tie me down

But I’ll still burn through these ropes

This fire you can’t contain

I will find them someday

Because I am not just a plaything

I will burn down your flimsy walls

The blue is no longer safe for you

But you still try to chill me to the bone

And it’s not warm here with you

I’ve been dreaming of that other land

Where they wait for me

Searching for what you have stolen
