Fires

Fires burning in my soul

Secrets and sins are its coal

It burns through hope, It burns through glee

It destroys my life, then smiles at me

The fire blazes and can't be stopped

My brain is cooked and my heart is chopped

The fun in life is burnt beyond black

My imagination starts to crumble and crack

Time stops, but the flames burn on

Everything I am or was is gone

I open my eyes and I see the sun

The process is over the fires are done

I try to think of fun and of laughter

There once were dreams and I their crafter

The reality hits like a stone to the head

My childhood's over, my happiness dead

It feels like I'm brainwashed or in a dark cult

However, I know I am now an adult.

I'm a Grad student now studying Biochemistry and Biophysics (not sure how I got there). I guess I've been using this site for nearly 8 years now though sometimes I went years without writing much of anything. I write what I feel and I write what I need to let go of. Sometimes I write about a dream or a nightmare I had, If I can tell the difference. I fell in love for poetry in high school and continued to write in college. I hope to publish a book someday as well (leave a comment if a poem speaks to you). P.S. My Instagram is @CottonCandyPoems
