Fireworks

Late evening, we came home

carrying folding chairs over our

shoulders along with the weight

of fireworks in our body.

The lights were out on the street.

The dim haze of light from

our green glow stick was

the only light to lit our

sloping path home.

 A short while later,

when we walked past the

small trout lake near our house,

My eldest daughter looked at me & said,

I liked the cracker that went up

Like a dragon leaving its smoke behind

flickered its packs of

colored light and lit the sky above.

I felt the shimmering light

coming toward us.

the white columns of

Smoke rose into the air.

My little One said, “the sound

of the last cracker

almost took my heart out,

even the walls of the building we sat

under gently shook, The blend of colors

lit the clear July sky.

The rockers went up from

the beds of crackers for 30 minutes
