The first and maybe last day of school

~ Worn and torn,

The smell of late August and the arriving winter.

~Heavy and old,

So many pockets and room for much more.

~spilled and refilled.

A book of adventure held tight against my front side,

~ adrenaline gushing.

a slightly torn piece of paper on the back,

~ The warmth and chill.

and many - many, loved and cherished memories.

~ Pencils and pens,

I’m held tight to your chest as you enter the school.

~ a spill and a stain,

New teachers and old friends are made known.

~ a broken zipper.

New supplies to fill my inner layers.

~ Last year.

First day of Jr. High and I had a new black binding.

~ This year.

Math homework, writing, science galore!

~ What a day.

What a day.
