First Breath

In writing, I lay bare my soul

I convey fantasies and I preserve memories

I honour a thought

I keep afloat a dissolving dream

I ward away hours

I hold fast to seconds

I recall emotion

I transcend insiginificance

I worship humanity and lament society

I praise God

I bury secrets and uncover them again

I weep, love, rejoice, loathe

For to write is to drift in a current

To ride a wild creature

To jump from the clouds

Trusting the wind

To set you down softly

I write in order that I may live.
