First College Class
Knees knocking, sweat dripping, breath catching
Walking into a college classroom.
Stumbling feet, eyes searching for a spot, quickly shuffling to it
Sitting down in your seat.
Glancing around, praying for a familiar face, disappointed sigh
The teacher walks in.
Never ending list of names, waiting for yours, Hearing your name
“Here”
Relieved sigh, Names still being called, End of the list
Class Starts.
Judging of the teacher, gauging exactly what you could get away with, getting the syllabus
Sign a Contract.
Passing papers back, avoiding eye contact, handing them to the teacher
Endless blur of classroom rules and etiquette.
Taking out notebooks, searching for a pen, waiting for something worth writing
Mindless babble about grandbabies.
Itching of the nose, tapping of the foot, eyes searching for a clock
Class dismissed.
Shuffling of notebooks into backpacks, scraping of chairs on the floor, filling of students out of the classroom
Survivor.
