First Day of School

Flimsy figures are many

in the isolated crowds.

A mere shadow shrinks

into the backdrop.

Wisps of whispers wonder:

Where is she?...

...Where is he?

While wandering the halls.

Halts at the doors,

head raised upward.

tick-tock tick-tock--Brriiinnnnggggg!!!

Steps aside for the stampede.

Oh! A distinct contour is recognized.

Body half-turned in its direction,

hand on hip,

a slow smirk is seen.

Mouth opened,

words lazily flow,

“You’re late. Oversleep, did you?”
