First Draft - ENDLESS SALT - First Draft

The hammer strikes hardest the heart be the target.
The living death endured beyond limits bearable.
The searing pain not soothable, no balm will do.
No pain is greater than budding new love’s loss.

No dream sadder than the one ever longed for. Hoped for like none other.  So close, then loosed from my almost grasp.

With its fading, her Life’s end, all is now lost.

Al I can do is weep.
Weep in the morn, weep the day long.
Weeping, not sleeping the night is its own empty hell.
Yet not for the long night’s endless tears still I would dare not still myself.

Every yawn would I fight to stave off.
For sleep is worse, even in sleep do I weep.
I would not know but the taste of my salt opened my tearful eyes.
First confused, then panicked, only my ears calmed my fear.

For I heard the last of my sobs as my breath captured my waking state.
Marveling first, this possibility.
That even in sleep my hurt so deep tears still fall.
Then my sad empty reach for her only to realize she is gone.

No reach back, no warmth.
Only the painful emptiness now forever mine to feel.
As I shudder, new tears,
I lye back to wonder if nights as these will end.
