At First Impression...

At first impression,

Writing started with tracing dashed lines,

trying to manuever the hand in an awkward way,

repeating a letter again and again,

eventually completing the work for the day.

That's the first time the word writing came up,

it was a task or a chore that had to be done,

it was associated with school and doing as told,

it was dull and numbing the bones.

Writing's first impression broke one day,

there was an odor of excitement and the room was lit,

colors came in and the world began to shift

For it was time to write freely of anything I wished.

Simple words had came to mind,

starting a sentence with "And" to increase the flow,

the writing was my own thoughts,

not particularly sounding smart but easing my mind,

to finally think, but not really try.

a third impression was realized at last

years later, when a question was asked

"What is writing? Describe in your own words"

after some thought of origins and answering 'Why?'

An answer came to me.

writing: a mark of any kind,

created to make a thought more permenant,

more real than in the mind

always giving the option to express a creative side.

It appeared before you knew it's name,

before the dotted lines,

a picture, a line, a shape.

created by paint or pencil or sticks in the grass.

Everyone writes, even if they can't read,

it's a form of expression, a way to remember,

a powerful tool that's free to all users,

and it should not be judged by its first impression.
