First Memory

Sitting in the backyard.

Rusty brick wall separates

me from the world.

Dirt under my fingernails,

red bumps on my fingertips.

The lone palm tree sways,

The sun hides in the clouds.

I'm happy.

No chaos, no financial instability, no anxiety.

True inner peace,

One with nature.

I was three.
