The First Ones

Through the trials, I have always had you

The ones who I could think about amid my worries

The ones whose stories I could think about to keep me going

Grandma and Grandpa

Coming to the U.S. and starting a business

You were the first ones

Mom and Dad, both the first born

Going to college

You were the first ones

Before me, you all faced your own trials

Language barriers, poverty, abuse, trauma

To name a few

When some people did not take you seriouosly

You proved to them why they should have

You showed what you are made of

I am thankful that your wisdom can be shared with me

That when I am down or looking for support

You are the first one to whom I turn

And that when someone asks me

Who inspires me to accomlplish my goals

You are the first ones to come to my mind
