First Time
The first time we met,
I thought you could teach me,
That you could guide me to greatness,
Now I realize that you couldn’t
I set my expectations to far for you,
And put my bar too low,
I sat still like you told me,
But that only showed I was well-trained.
Changes in me,
No one can tell me what I am,
It will not be repeated again,
I will not go back on my word.
The shadows are growing big as I speak,
People aren’t as they appear they are,
That guy could be nice,
But he looks like trouble,
That girl looks stuck-up and conceited,
But in reality, she’s the opposite.
What is your perception of me?
Are you willing to change that view?
I’m willing to change and I first thought,
No matter what it takes
I’ll get you to change what you think of me.
Show me who you really are
And stop showing what society perceives you as.
I tried to be what the world saw me as,
But I couldn’t.
I tried to be the “perfect” angel for my parents,
But I failed.
I tried hiding my tears,
But I was defeated.
I couldn’t be what they wanted me to be,
My struggles to be perfect trailing behind me,
No help would come to me and the chains have gotten tighter.
From trying, to be what I was made to be,
Crawling to perfection makes, the views become shallow and dim.
They laugh at me from the sidelines,
Laughing at my goal to be perfect hinder me,
Perfection is only seen as incompetence to the person I was trying to be,
But I’ll chose to achieve greatness without the hindrance
Without the fakeness of the image that is viewed,
So I’m standing my ground and stop struggling for some else’s expectations,
I’ve became my own teacher and passing with flying colors,
Never again should I be that “perfect” person they’ll wish,
I am me and there is nothing you could do to change me again.
