For the First Time in Forever

For the first time in forever

You find you are alone

For the first time in forever

You find your world has changed

You thought you were ready

You thought it a choice

The independence you craved

You thought you would rejoice

But for the first time in forever

(Or, maybe, just today)

You find that choice you really did crave

Was a challenge all the same.

For the first time in forever

You have to make new friends

And for the first time in forever

You’re struggling to stay afloat

It turns out they weren’t lying when they said college wasn’t a joke

But, now, for the first time in forever

Things will never be the same

You’ve invested in your future

And you’re working toward a change

The ups and the downs are all a part of the game

One day you’ll be better off just the same

The challenge is finding that maybe you’re not alone

Just for the first time in forever you’ve really found your home

You found a passion for something greater

And one day you’ll change the world

For now it’s just a degree

But wait until they see

Just how far you’ve come.
