The First Times Never Last
Dear J,
I remember it all
The first time you held my hand
The first time we kissed
The first time we text
The first time we were alone
The first time you added those emojis on my phone
They said we were cute together
Everyone thought we would last forever
I was in it for the long run
The first time turned into the last
The kisses turned into fighting
In just two short weeks
I thought we would work things out,
But you ended things quickly
I thought we would talk
I thought we would try
But instead I fell to the floor, tears pouring from my eyes
You said we weren’t right together
So I simply agreed
How could I tell you what I felt
You seemed so set on ending things fast
I wrote you a letter, one you’ll never read
It tells you how I feel
It tells you what I think
You said we would be friends
We never even talk
You said you would never hurt me
Now I have a broken heart
I didn’t think I could care this much
I didn’t think I could fall so hard, so fast to get broken so early on
I thought you would miss me
But I don’t think you care
The first time turned into the last
Its like we were never there
The first time turned into the last
Now all we have together is the past
They say when you meet the right one
Everything goes still
No butterflies, no nervousness
Just a sense of right, a silent thrill
What they forgot to mention
Is what to do when the right one walks away
I loved you but you left
They say all good things must end
I didn’t want us to
And so the kissing turned into fighting
And the first time turned into the last.
Love always,
K.D.
