Five

At age five, the world is such a beautiful place

With no cares in the world, our hearts were filled with faith.

Scraped knees and broken toys are the only things that hurt us

All of our friends were so easy to trust.

Our smiles were real, warm, and bright

Our eyes would sparkle at every sight.

At age twelve, the world is a decent place

We began to care, our hearts began losing faith

Crushes and parents are the only things that hurt us

We fought with some friends, but did  not lose their trust.

Our smiles were still real, warm, and bright

Our eyes still sparkled at every sight.

At age seventeen, the world is a horrible place

We do not care at all, our hearts lost all faith

Love, grades, friends, and life are only some things that hurt us

Down to a couple of friends because it is so hard to trust

Our smiles are fake, cold, and dim

Our eyes are dull, tears filled to the rim.

It's hard growing up, it coarsens our hearts

It hurts our souls, it rips all faith apart

It is said that we get stronger as we go further in our lives,

I know nobody said it would be easy, but I miss being five.
