Five Close

I am the sum
Of five close to me

Thank you Shane
For my level headedness
My best friend since birth
The little brother with whom I discovered
More than just the world
My common sense
Nurtured by your patience
Has allowed for a smooth journey
Through life so far
I love you more
Than the universe twice over

Thank you Hana
For the determination you taught me
I had a flicker of a flame inside
Before I met you
But you carefully added kindle
To my fire internal
And now my passions burn strong and proud
It's okay to love something more
Than the fear of losing it
Just as your friendship
To me means everything

Thank you Mark
For the witty comments I now make
On the daily
Your sarcasm has latched on
To my personality
My ears are unconscious radars
Consistently listening for puns
I've acquired a distinct sense of humor
Molded by time spent with you
And yet I still laugh hardest of all
At only your jokes

Thank you Hannah
For my adventurous spirit
When everyone else fell out
We stuck through our plans
Our last minute insane ideas
Are without a doubt
The memories I will hold with me forever
You have shattered my fear of the new
You snuck me out of my comfort zone
And together we hold
In our hands the world

Thank you Meg
For helping me work on my compassion
Something of which I lacked
Before I met your beautiful soul
Love and kindness were never my stronghold
But through you I have learned
To seek out good in everyone
You pulled me out of a dark and foggy world
To show me that even street lights shine bright
My love for life is now unending
As is my love for you

I am the sum of these five
Level headed
Determined
Witty
Adventurous
Loving
People
Thank you each
For being a piece
In the puzzle
That makes me
