Flashlight
The desert oasis swims out of view
Clarity does not bring closure
I look float in the sea, sea of blue
Bright reflections of the internal me
My flashlight bobs in the water,
It turns towards shore
My feet ache with each step
The yellow ground switches from glass to sand
My blisters weep red tears, staining everywhere
Flashlight does not ache or cry
Flashlight stays vigilant and awake
The night casts shadows and monsters appear
My nightmare finds the door to reality
The chill comes winding through
It captures my toes
My teeth
My breath
I cannot fight the cold
But I can make my nightmare return
Flashlight shines through
Sending those mythical creatures back
Into the depths of my mind
With resolving hope,
I move against the chill
My toes
My teeth
My breath
All mine
I know I can survive
I know I can last
All because of flashlight
