A Flawed Symposium

humans were created with

two faces

four arms

four legs

because humans were made to

lie

steal

leave

Plato was wrong,

the gods did not fear a revolt

Zeus did not split the human race

to protect himself

but rather to protect us

from ourselves

yet to what avail?

he cursed us to feel incomplete,

destined to walk the earth in search of

our other half,

conditioned to think we are

better as a pair

simply because we were

made as one.

we forget that being joined by love

means we are once more

two faces

four arms

four legs

caught up in the lie of our existence

until “soulmate”

starts to sound a lot like

“adulterer”

“thief”

“deadbeat,”

afraid to admit that our better half

is simply the missing piece

of the explosive

reunited just in time for detonation.

this is why

lovers lie together

kisses are stolen

and why

if you love her,

you must let her go

after all, Love came from Chaos,

and to Chaos Love shall return
