Flawless in a Flawed World

Flawless

Am I brave or am I crazy
No one may know the answer
To why I volunteered to safeguard The American Dream
like a young girl who dreams of being a dancer

Waking up everyday at 0430
Clean shaven face, neatly pressed uniform with an American flag on my right shoulder
To everyday civilians we seem bolder

Off post we are constantly thanked for our service
We are even called heroes
But we are the same as John the postman or Mary from the grocery store
We are the same as the young 22 year old trying to work off her college loan
Ultimately she's earned it
Just like we earned the title soldier
Doing things no average person would ever understand,
Fighting for people we don't even know in a foreign land

We have endured physically and mentally challenging training to allow us to where this uniform
We have even fought wars

But we don't ask for your gratitude
Or to be called heroes
Because we are not heroes
We are american soldiers
We are the same as you
We only ask for you to never forget those who gave all
And to respect our cause
Because we are flawless soldiers fighting in a world that is deeply flawed

Flawless
