Fleet

I’ve never met another

as caring as I

As understanding as I

As comprehending as I.

I’ve never met another

who always has my back

in the heat

in the cold

and on the acid rainy days.

I’ve never met another

who feels the way I do

each sad day

each mad day

and every joyous spring just tapped.

I’ve never met another

who wipes away the tears

and the sweat

and the blood

to see fruition bloom.

The only one I’ve met

is soon to be departed

they are slow

they are tired

and they count the seconds

as the hand waves them on,

a slow prayer leaving their lips

and gracing their ears

just as they do mine.

They take the time to make each breath

float out like moths to the light,

preserving the beauty of the form

that has housed me

kept me safe

kept me warm

and let me live and give life.

And for all this

the effort and strife,

I could not be more grateful

as the clock strikes

one moment too soon.
