A Flirt With Death
I have fallen for my own end. I am in love with
death. Oh heart, why must thou beat for thee?
Yet you do not deny your heart and flirt
with death. May it be that your heart
beats not for death, but beats because of death?
Alas, I do not know my love. Or should I
say end? This beating, fleeting heart of mine
is bound to yours in time. This heart
that beats for death, of death, does not
know rhythm or rhyme. For it races as you
hold it, skipping beat to beat, unbeating. It
dances and twirls in your nimble hands, as it
flirts with death ever near.
Then may I forever keep your heart, kept
in my nimble hands, forever loved and
protected?
I and it shall be your's and your's only. For
my death is the beginning of the rest of
my existence with you. Held in your cold,
unyielding, but everlasting embrace.
