Floating
Floating above crashing waves,
head barely bobbing above them,
the salty water burns my flesh,
varying extremes of pain,
blood seeping to the surface,
Each drop shatters like glass,
i can smell it,
like old pennies from under my skin,
how long have I been here,
with the day's blurring with night,
no deviation of shades of light,
the rays of sun,
licking like flames against my already raw skin,
how long can i continue to swim,
fighting just to stay above,
but desperately wanting to sink below,
will anyone find me,
dehydration,
surrounded by the toxic water,
like a cruel sick joke,
can I endure one more second,
one more hour,
one more day,
or will I die,
floating,
starting to decay,
what happened to all the islands,
they suddenly slipped away,
is this real or am I going insane,
feet kicking,
treading water,
my legs begin to go limp,
out of time,
floating.
