The Flood

Water’s rushing in

It has consumed all

All that I had

All that I remembered

All that I had known

It is gone

It consumed all

It isn’t safe anymore

To walk where I belong

Home

I couldn’t see the good anymore

It felt as if I were poor as poor

Life just seemed like one big chore

The flood drowned me

It hurt my core

I didn’t know what to do

Where to go

Why to continue

It’s all gone anyways

I lost my grip

Almost my friends too

Is this the real world?

This unforgiving storm

Of relentless terror

Bashing through my windows

Breaking down my doors

And if that wasn’t enough

It tore up my floors

I didn’t want to let it in

The darkness from the flood

But its strength, more powerful than mine

Turned my normal gleam to a pitiful whine

I couldn’t find shelter from the storm

My heart was torn

My body, worn

Then like a gift from God above

My church helped rebuild what I once loved

My house, my home, now back in one piece

Soon I might have my mental release

Hopefully then, this pain will cease

But for now, I am satisfied

For I have found shelter from the storm
