Flower Bed
People look at you and they see all the wonders of the world
You are whitecapping waves in the middle of summer
Destructive to sandcastles but wonderful still
You have so much life living inside of you
Your waves glisten cobalt in the sun
When I look at you
Sitting across from me on the floor of this old book store
You’re sitting with your legs crossed underneath your body
Worn converse on your feet
Dirty black with scuff marks on the toe
Your jeans with rips in the knees
I would normally hate holy jeans
But on you it’s a magnificent concoction
The pocket is almost worn through from your cellphone
And the cuffs are torn
You’re wearing a band tee for some metal band I’ve never heard of
But that’s okay because I know you don’t like any of my music either
Splashes of red to match your cheeks when I compliment you
Black that matches my never changing nail polish and winged eyeliner
On you, it’s perfect
Your hair has grown too long
I miss when it was red
You told me your life was a catastrophic mix of school and skipping homework
I hoped I could turn it into a garden with my love and all the seeds of our moments
Where we could both grow into blooming daisies and daffodils
I would water you
Pick your weeds of self doubt and uncertainty
I will carry my water bottle with me so that when you begin to wilt and wither
I will bring you back again
Because when people look at you, they see hope for a new day
People look at me and they see a dandelion
With soft edges but not valuable enough to keep
I’m sitting across from you in my old black flats
They are wearing through in the heels
Dust covered with a delicate little bow on the toe
My leggings are black with milk chocolate brown dog hair on the calves
My favorite shirt given to me by an amazing person
Paired with a green and blue flannel
As we sit on the floor of this old book store
I can't help but wonder if you are thinking about me how I’m thinking about you
I’m just a weed in your garden and some day you’ll decide to pick me from your flower bed
