Flower in the Field

Just wanted to let you know

How much you’ve helped me grow

From teaching my obstinate fingers to dance

To helping me mend an old pair of pants

You’ve showered me with love

Held my tiny hands in your glove

You’ve brushed my long hair

With the utmost of care

You’ve provided correction

Pointing me in the right direction

We’ve studied the scriptures

Beginning with pictures

Starting down at the roots

Then moving up through new shoots

You’ve protected and pruned

& seen how I’ve bloomed

Out of all the millions

Of ordinary civilians

You’ve chosen to cherish

Till the day you perish

A flower whose yield

Is different from the rest in the field

A delicate, slender rose

Whose bloom is beginning to expose

The beauty inside

Wrapped up in her pride

You’ve tended and cared for

And led through a new door

You’ve helped her discover

Her one true lover

I’ve reaped unfathomable yields

Due to your work in the master’s fields

Note: This poem was written for my Grandparents as a thank you to them for all the time they have spent loving me and showing me how to love the Lord. They have shown me how to be a true servant leader through their actions.
