Flowers

Pain is the opposite of flowers. Once you pick a flower its life slowly vanishes in your human hand. If you pick Pain, it stays with you all the time, chasing your thoughts up down and around your mind, some people think pain will cease with time but the more time you spend with your Pain the longer it festers. The more it begins to take bites out of your soul like water chews away at rock: slowly, not even noticeable until you search your memories for an earlier time and realize that it’s not as it was before. Not what it was before you picked that beautiful, innocent flower, before Pain, before you let it eat away on your body, mind and spirit. It swallows all three whole. It claws at your innocence, thrashes for your worth. Wants you to believe your nothing. It wants you in your ego’s world, wants you to be miserable and filled to the brim with sorrow. “Be the victim” Pain says. Just like that flower you picked; your grubby human hands pulled its life away. You made it the victim. You can never put it back on its stem and have it be happy, you don't apologize because it can't hear you, it's already dead. We are so unaware of what we're doing to our home and how we’re not realizing that there are so many other things, organisms, plants, animals, and lives bigger, more important than ourselves.
