A Flower's Poison
I planted the lonely little seed
And shared my sunlight
Almost instantly
It’s petals blossomed out of the forgotten shade
Into the warmth of the sun’s bright smile
I was there for its many wilts
Willingly tending to its parched roots
Holding it up when it broke
I became its new backbone and bent my own
The seed I once knew grew into a tall, powerful flower
And I began to feel weak
It’s beautiful petals turned away from me
Facing the other flowers in the field
As I stood in my splotch of sunlight
Its petals stood in front of me
Blocking the little amount of light I had left
I became so small
That it was my turn to be the wilted one
My petals continued to fall to the ground
One by one each day
As I sunk into the depths of the bitter soil
The flower did nothing
And the flower that I had planted
Was now a tree
Towering over me
Its roots grasping me so tight
That I might never have the opportunity to be in the sunlight again
