Fly High

I fly high

Above my world,

To just watch everyone,

Sometimes I want to dive down and join them,

Then I remember that I might just get hurt

So I fly high and observe from above,

I’m too scared of getting hurt.

I fly high above my world

I come lower when I become more comfortable with you

When I feel safe and sure,

It may take a while but if I see you working hard

To get to know me,

Then I know that you really want to know me, for me.

I fly high because it feels good to be free

Free from everyone else’s problems,

Their worries, their grief’s.

But I also feel sad,

I feel as if I’m missing something,

I’ve been flying so high for so long

I don’t know how to come down on my own.

Flying high I see the world passing me by,

I hear about opportunities but I don’t know how to get there,

Too scared to ask,

To confused to ask.

I don’t always know what to do

Others seem to think that I do which makes it harder still,

To come down

It was easier to fly high

Flying high can be lonely,

With nothing to distract me from myself

And all that I feel.

I am slowly getting used to the idea that I won’t always get hurt,

That I have a choice to make…

I could always be separate and guarded or,

I could fly with everyone else
