Flying Words

Pencil and paper placed in small hands A chance to dream and imagine worlds beyond our own No confining rules or obscene laws Wings that cause words to fly and heart to swell with freedom To write what is wished from a young girl’s heart A mind is filled with millions of thoughts, sad and happy Freedom beckons to small girl, to let feelings escape Restraint is met as brains wills to keep emotions intact Fingers fight as heart and hand unite to write Flying words and an open heart create a new universe So many words and thoughts waiting to be said An opportunity to speak out loud fearful emotions No shame, no embarrassment, no fear The urge is strong and the addiction is fierce Hands cannot stop as years of unspoken words escape A chance to speak, a chance to dream The small girl’s world expands into a new dimension Perfect escape from emotion, from the world, from life Tears are spilled and dreams are re-formed Poetry is my heart written anew
