Follow Your Passion

I wanted to be a doctor for one day

My parents wanted me to be a dentist

I wanted to be a writer and an editor

Today

I am majoring in engineering

Engineering is not my passion

I enjoy my classes

But I don’t love them

My mom inspires me

She’s in social work

She works with women in poverty

She grew up in a poor family

And she inspires me to give back

I want to help people

I want to drive education reform

Engineering is important

It changes lives

But I want to make an impact

That changes our system

That increases children’s literacy rates

I can’t contribute much to engineering

I lack the creativity and the motivation

My passion lies elsewhere

I want to graduate with a Bachelor’s in engineering

And a Master’s in education

I want to be able to follow my passion

I want to give back to the world that has given me so much

I want to inspire change

But more importantly

I want to inspire others to inspire change.
