Following Light
My steps lead me down
A narrow path
In a dense and frightening forest.
I search the darkness
I search for light
But find none.
An obsidian maze
Closes around me
I cannot escape.
So I run through the forest
The densely grown forest
And lift my eyes to the sky
But there is no light.
Leaves, woven chain
Above me form a devil's dome
My eyes fall
With my tears.
There is no light
There is no hope
And I run.
My feet pound and my heart beats
With the rhythm of a drum.
Panic fills my chest-
Clawing hand close around me
They tear at my hands and feet
The Trapper's snares
I am blind yet I run.
In desperation
I call out for help-
And suddenly it ends.
The labrynth throws me
From its evil grasp.
I break through the foliage
And see light all around
Silvery and bright.
As I stand in the meadow-
My circle of freedom,
I wipe the tears from my eyes.
I lift my eyes
To the sky once more
And I see the stars.
Endless, shining pinpricks of light
In the silence of solitude
I realize there is light
A multitude, a mass
Braving the darkness of the world.
Take heart and do not fear, my child
Says the One who knows all
For the brightest light of all
Is a beacon to lead us home.
