Foolishness
Foolishness
Is watching an ornate vase
Hurtle toward the stone-cold ground
And still having a flicker of hope
That you can catch it just in time.
Foolishness
Is squeezing the bar of soap
So hard
So desperately
That it slips through your fingers,
Despite your most earnest attempts
To keep it with you.
Foolishness
Is checking your mailbox
Every day
For a letter you know was never sent.
Foolishness
Is looking at the remnants of
What used to be a beautiful friendship
And trying to pretend
Nothing has changed.
