Fool’s Gold

When I first met you I thought I found my soulmate It seemed more than anyone else, it was with you that I could most relate When rejected by all of the favorites, I decided to give an underdog a chance I thought that it was with you that I would finally find true love and romance Things were great in the beginning, as we went through the honeymoon faze It seemed that in your world, I would finally have a place But then I tried to move things forward and your past had to rear its ugly head It was then that I realized that I would have to pay the price for a man that was long dead I thought I would be first in your life but to someone else, I had to take a back seat I was really a second class citizen in this scenario but it took a while for me to see We were the ones in this relationship but someone else was really in control I thought I found my fortune of love with you but in reality it was Fool’s Gold You were a thoughtful and kind person and said and did all of the right things You said I was the prince to your princess as you hoped for an engagement ring But reality turned this fairytale into real life and I was really the ugly frog instead of your prince I got frustrated when I realized that I was really paying the price for someone else’s sins It doesn’t matter if you’re a good person, if someone else holds all of the cards You were threatened by her power when she thought our relationship was going too far I got frustrated, angry and distant and you in turn unfortunately got ghosted and hurt The higher power in this case then became the hero and I in turn became the villain and the jerk But you had me going down a dead end street and I truly had nowhere to go I really wanted to be the hero in this fairytale but in real life I was just the goat I thought when I finally found you, I thought that we would be together forever But the higher power then spoke and said, don’t marry him, not ever It is really unfortunate that this kind of situation was the best that I could do You acted like you had no control over the situation when it was in fact signed off by you I certainly wasn’t worth you losing everything, so why would you expect me to stay around? You said you wanted to be my princess but with your past, you wearing a tarnished crown When you are stuck in the past, you can’t have a future and you are stuck in quicksand I thought our castle was made in stone but in reality it was just made of sand You talked about us having a future but how could that be possible with someone else in control? I thought I found my fortune of love with you but in reality it was just Fool’s Gold From Fool’s Gold & Fool’s Paradise Copyright 2026 Resisting Distress Publishing
