A Fool's Guide to Happiness
Optimism is a fool’s guide to happiness.
Or so they say.
But lately I’ve been filling my days with nothing but the sound
Of Your smile.
A smile that likes to stick around for a while and tell me
You are here.
With me.
Travelling through these waves on a ship built of nothing but the sound
Of Our voices.
Voices so strong they continue to ring in the silence everyone else pretends to hear.
A silence so somber and grasping some days I find myself gasping
Barely breathing beneath this pushing and pulling
My mother always told me I was bad at swimming.
Five years old pedalingclamberingsinking under all those
Fake floatation devices
Buoyant like I was supposed to be,
Bobbing so carelessly
I could only see from below.
Pushing and pulling and pushing and pulling
I sink.
I am surrounded by this entirety
This grasping
Am I still gasping
Let me sink.
Optimism is a fool’s guide to happiness.
I know.
A faulty compass directing the wrong direction but at least I have something to guide me.
Optimism.
Blindness only counts as blindness to those who have previously seen
So let’s be optimistic.
Let’s be foolish
Let’s dance about on those waves
Rocking to the beat of the song no one else can hear.
Freestylin’ through this mess.
