Footsteps

Violence in the streets, Hatred on their lips, Venom in their words. We hold these truths to be self evident, That something has gone wrong Listen to a child's footsteps: Light, Quick, Full of Life. Unknowing of the world around Ignorant of the life ahead Blissfully unaware of the struggles they may face Listen to the footsteps of their fathers: Light, Quick, Full of Caution. Aware that one step out of line may cost them So much like a child, for they were never allowed to grow Squashed by their oppressors, these men do not walk They tiptoe through life, eyes down making sure they heed that line. These men listen to the footsteps of their children, and know that things must change. So they started with themselves. Listen to their footsteps: What once was light now is strong. What once was quick now is sturdy. What once was caution now is challenge. They marched for their children. They marched for inalienable rights. They marched for Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. We hold these truths to be self-evident, That change begins with you.
