Footsteps In The Sand

The scorch of the sun, the burn of the sand And the chill of the edge of the waves My feet do not feel these things that they should When I follow you Two walk along this strand of the beach Yet there's only one path left behind My toes step where yours did seconds ago When I follow you If I stubble or trip or kneel down or fall You do not scold me for defacing my path You simply smile and help me stand When I follow you The time grows short that you'll walk on this beach For soon you'll be further along But I hold in my heart the time I have left As I follow you Even If I lose your path on this calm lively beach I'll see gold skin and blues eyes evermore And in the path that we've made, others may walk As I did when I followed you
