The tiles are worn and cracked As I stare down, hands holding me up The air smells sterile Each room of disinfectant and last occupants The hallways I face Both clean and blank Identical to the others And yet, a crossroads One leads to freedom As I stare down at the light A way out, an answer, a solution It, however, is sterile as the rest The other leads to another room, occupant still inside, waiting As I stare, I imagine the beeping, wondering, could I hear it stop? A well-worn heart, a soul Both hallways are blank, yet they stand, each a decision away Left or Right, Steps away Life or death, but for another
