The Forbidden Love of all Loves
The Forbidden Love of all Loves
Long long ago, the world was once peaceful. The land was prosperous with many living things inhabiting it. The people and animals all lived in harmony. The gods who lived up in Olympus were content of this Golden Age. No one ever thought that this peaceful life would ever end.
One day Zeus and Apollo were conversing of the mortals, when suddenly Apollo gave him some disturbing news. He told of a dream that involved destruction. He prophesied that the destruction would be caused by, the love of two unlikely souls. This destruction would end the Golden Age, however Zeus blew off that thought.
“That is preposterous, look at the world that we’ve worked so hard to contain. Nothing could mess that up, I won’t allow it.”
“But-”
“I don’t want to hear it Apollo, you are a great oracle, and that’s why I favor you above others and can count on you, but you are wrong this time,” interrupted Zeus.
“But it could-”
“I COMMAND YOU TO STOP, be off Apollo, I don’t want to hear anymore of this nonsense, and you will make sure to not to spread this little rumor around. I won’t have my people worrying for nothing.”
Apollo looked dismayed, so he left quickly, wishing not to suffer the wrath of the Great Zeus. After Apollo left, Zeus kept on his ways, completely brushing off the prophecy and leaving it in the shadow.
Many years passed and the world kept on it’s peaceful ways. Zeus and all the other deities had kids and continued on with their lives, relishing in their happy lives.
One day all the children of the gods were happily enjoying each other’s company. However, two kids caught the attention of many eyes. They were known as, Aphrodite and Ares. The two always were in each other’s company, they laughed and played with each other. Aphrodite was very beautiful and kind-hearted, this was the reason that she was given the gift of love. Ares was stubborn and high-tempered, inheriting that from his father Zeus, that was why he was given the gift of war. Even though, the couple were completely opposite, they were meant for each other. Everybody knew that they would one day wed.
The kids of the gods and goddesses grew, each one of them embracing their gifts. Ares was always joking around and creating conflicts between the other deities. The little tricks would result in anger and jealousy. Aphrodite started to use her gift of love to get other goddesses the confidence to confront their secret loves. As the young couple grew, their love blossomed like a rose. Years passed, and they later were married; and they had a good marriage for a while.
However, as years passed, their love started to have problems that could affect others outside their marriage.
“Why are your childish trifles always upon other women? I am your wife.”
“Aphrodite, why do you always have to be so jealous of other women, you’re my eternal love!”
“I don’t care, stop talking to other women!”
“Then you stop talking to other gods; I see the way you look at the other gods.”
Many of their arguments followed the same pattern, one claiming that the other was cheating or jealous of the other. Because of these issues, the couple’s problems would start to reflect on the mortal world. They inflicted their marriage problems on the mundanes. All the jealousy, hurt, and anger that both Aphrodite and Ares held against each other, they would let the mortals feel it too. Aphrodite inflicted pain and jealousy upon women of her choosing so that they would feel the hurt she was experiencing. Ares made men feel betrayal and anger that he felt of Aphrodite accusing him of, upon other men.
The mortal world was suffering. Friends, families, couples, and many others were experiencing anger, betrayal, hurt, and jealousy just like Aphrodite and Ares felt. Feelings that they hadn’t experienced before. At least, not while the gods and goddesses were there to maintain the peace and happiness they had. Things were starting to fall apart in the mundane world. There were feuds, wars, breakups, arguments and many more problems between the people. They didn’t know what to think of all these problems that they’ve never faced before. They felt lost without anybody’s aid. They started to lose faith in the gods and goddesses.
Meanwhile, as trouble was brewing in the mortal world, Zeus started taking notice, he couldn’t believe that the mortals would think that the gods didn’t care about them. He especially didn’t like how the mortals started to lose faith in him. He couldn’t allow that, after all, he was the great Zeus, he had to be worshipped. In distress, Zeus asked Apollo if he’s had any prophecies of what’s to occur next if this continued on.
“I am very sorry of the conflicts that is starting, but I have had many prophecies to tell me of the future, and they all point to destruction unless we stop it before it gets worse.”
“I just don’t understand, Aphrodite and Ares were so happy, what happened?”
“I’m sorry my lord, but the prophecy that I foretold years ago is starting to come true.”
“What prophecy?”
“The prophecy of destruction that is caused by, the love of two unlikely souls. I apologize, but this can’t go any longer. We’ve got to fix this, and by fixing this, Aphrodite and Ares can’t be together.”
Apollo left as quickly as possible before Zeus could say anything in response, in hopes to not receive the wrath of Zeus,
Zeus thought carefully of what Apollo said, taking different approaches of the prophecy. But there was no way for Aphrodite and Ares to get out of it. It was simply impossible. He knew that he would have to tell Aphrodite and Ares, separate them to keep peace for the better good. So in result he forbade them to ever be together, otherwise he would strip them of their gifts and mortality. It was for the better good, their sacrifice of the love for the restoration of the Golden Age. Wishing not to disappoint their father anymore and cause havoc in the mundane world, they split up.
Aphrodite and Ares grew apart in the upcoming years. Both deities fell in love with other gods and goddesses. However, secretly, there was still a tug on their heart strings when they were away from each other; and they still felt jealousy whenever they saw the other deity with another god or goddess. But no amount of fighting and anger could have kept them apart, because they still deeply love each other. That is why this is the story of the forbidden love that could’ve lead the world in destruction.
