Into the Forest

Into the forest where the darkness of the shadows dwelled

Into the forest where only the light of dusk saw through the leaves

She galloped through, atop her steed

Red cloak flowing in the breeze

In the forest, she heard the rustle in the brush, the crack of a twig

In the forest, she saw a movement, felt a presence in the black

She stopped and looked for her adversary

Hands gripping at the reins

From the forest, he emerged, horrid and full of all things evil

From the forest, came the jungle of fur, the rows of teeth, the sets of claws

His eyes burned with an ember of bloodlust

Body the size of a house

There in the forest they stood and starred. Neither made a move

There in the forest not even the flowered dared to make a sound

Her palm on her sword, his large jaw drooling

Waiting for the time to strike

Here in the forest there was one swift movement, one quick pounce

Here in the forest her blade struck his claws in one quick clash

The battle raged on, neither backing down; neither giving up

The horse gone, sack of pastries sprawled on the floor

Through the forest they fought for their survival; one craved hunger and the other, their life

Through the forest, they dodged and ran. Trees fell. Animals cried out

The green and brown was soon dyed red

Red as her cloak, red as the sky

Somewhere in the forest there was one last cry

Somewhere in the forest they fell

Somewhere in the forest his body was still

Somewhere in the forest her sword still stays

Out of the forest she resurfaced and looked at the dying light in the sky

Out of the forest she gathered her belongings and continued on her way

Her cape burgundy and heavy

A sharp claw at her side
